The first stage in the manufacture of your castings is the preparation of your model - your master pattern.

Types of Master

The manufacture of masters is the crux of the whole operation. The better your master, the better your casting. This is the stage where it pays to know a little about the process so you can design your masters for casting. Always remember: "DESIGN FOR CASTING" is a slogan to live by.

Metal Masters

The best master is a metal one. Full stop. So, maybe you're skilled enough to convert your design into a master on the bench. Maybe you've seen an object that you'd like in a different alloy. If your metal master is well made then your castings will be of the highest quality with low finishing time.

Wax Carving

There are many waxes available from soft and mouldable to hard and polishable. The finished master is in your hands. If you take 10 minutes, we'll cast it and you'll regret it. If you spend 2 days you'll be proud of it for the rest of your life. Wax offers huge scope for you to interperet your design. If you're happy once it's cast, we can mould it or if you want to continue working on the metal casting, to perfect it, it'll give you a better quality production run once moulded. But no 'Grillz'.

CAD/CAM

Maybe the all-singing, all-dancing solution to master making but you do need to be clever. It's a relatively new skill. But you do need a firm understanding of the manufacturing process to get the best from the system. It's very easy to design something on-screen which is impossible to print or worse yet, cast. Nor are they a perfect finish, they still need finishing and polishing. We're always happy to receive STL files and advise if you have concerns.

Practically anything

In theory it's possible to cast anything. If we can mould it, we can usually cast it. Shells, twigs, seeds, modeling clay, "interlocking construction blocks", really, anything can be moulded using a cold mould. It is also possible to cast some natural objects directly as long as they will burn-out completely - slighlty risky.
